War dramas often arrive with a certain expectation, especially if it involves the Air Force. There will be roaring fighter jets slicing through impossible skies, soldiers delivering goosebump-inducing monologues, and patriotism dialled up so high that subtlety barely gets a chance to breathe. Somewhere between all the spectacle, the people inside the uniforms disappear, replaced by near-mythical heroes who rarely falter.
